NEW BEDFORD While most New Bedford precincts held a majority for then-candidate Joe Biden in the 2020 election, a recently published map by the New York Times shows support for Donald Trump grew in some city precincts compared to support in the 2016 election.
The New York Times last week published an extremely detailed map with gradations of red and blue denoting how much a precinct shifted from the 2016 election.
A South End precinct had 25% of votes for Trump in 2020, up from 12% in 2016. Votes for the Democratic candidate dropped about the same amount. In another South End precinct, votes for Trump went from 20% in 2016 to 32% in 2020.
WSU testing wastewater for COVID on campus
FAIRBORN Wright State University is participating in a state-funded wastewater sampling program to detect the presence of COVID-19 on the Dayton and Lake campuses.
Sampling wastewater can help the university to catch the coronavirus early and prevent an outbreak of COVID-19 in the Wright State community. The sampling effort is focused on residential halls on both campuses.
Numerous colleges around the United States are testing wastewater to detect the coronavirus on their campuses. For instance, wastewater sampling helped the University of Arizona prevent an outbreak in one dorm last fall when follow-up testing found two asymptomatic students.

A series of religious and cultural programmes will be held as part of the annual Murugha Mutt Jatre (fair), which will begin from Friday. Seer of Murugha Mutt Mallikarjun Swami told presspersons in Dharwad on Wednesday that during the annual jatre, held in memory of Murughendra Mahashivayogi, various programmes would be held on the mutt premises and the Car festival will be held on February 16.
The seer said that the programmes had been organised with focus on Sharana literature and various scholars are scheduled to deliver talks. Heads of Lingayat mutts and religious institutions and political leaders from across the State are expected to take part, he said.
